A grocery store chain is seeking to add another Louisville-area location.
Aldi Inc. requested a site plan review to permit a 20,075-square-foot grocery store in a planned unit development district during the August New Albany City Plan Commission meeting.
The new location would be located at 4551 Charlestown Road in New Albany.
John McClain, an Aldi representative covering Southern Indiana and Northern Kentucky, said at the meeting that this location will be larger than the first location because it's the company's "new footprint." He estimated that the first New Albany location, at 3118 Grant Line Road, was around 18,000 square feet. The plan commission unanimously approved the request.
The location's entrance and exit is slated to be right-in and right-out on Charlestown Road. The parking lot will have 87 spots, with the minimum requirement being 78 spots.
The parking lot will also have to cut through to the new 7Brew location, which is set to officially open on Sept. 1.
Both properties are being managed by Hogan Real Estate. Hogan Real Estate is the 10th largest commercial property management firm in Louisville based on square feet managed out of local offices in 2024 and 2025, according to LBF's research. In 2025, they managed 2.59 million square feet of a majority retail and industrial space.
"We are excited to share we’re making progress on our new store in New Albany," Aldi's Greenwood Division Vice President Laura Bauer said via email. "At this time, we don’t have additional details to share regarding this new store or Aldi growth in the area."
In addition to the Aldi location in New Albany, the chain also has one store in Jeffersonville, located at 3131 E. 10th St. There are six locations in Louisville and one in Middletown, which opened in December 2024. Aldi currently has more than 2,500 stores nationwide.
